Tajoura Residence – Salmon Real-Estate Development

A 550 m² private villa on two floors in Tajoura, Tripoli. It is designed for a client who carries great value inside and does not display it.

The client

He is not modest; he is private. Modesty is the absence of value, and privacy is its protection. He wanted a home that reflects who he is, not who others expect him to be: a home that does not perform for the street and rewards those who are allowed inside.

The concept

A rock shaped by wind over thousands of years, whose beauty was always inside. The client is that rock, and the building is its form.

The move

Large, solid, rounded white volumes pull apart only at the door and the windows. There, and only there, natural marble is revealed. The marble was chosen because it is what the client is: formed under immense pressure, it shows its beauty only when opened.

Light

At night the volumes are lit from below, and warm light falls on the marble at the openings. The building rewards proximity the way the client does.

What was left out

Windows facing the street, decoration, and rich materials on the closed surfaces. The volumes are deliberately oversized and the openings deliberately narrow.

The principle

Design for who they are, not for what they say they want. When the reading is right, the client does not say "I like it". He says "this is me". The material goes where the person goes: the marble is at the opening, because that is where he reveals himself.
